Unlike traditional coworking spaces, Starcofree Coworking goes beyond providing just workstations. It incorporates various functions such as kitchens and bar counters, offering users the opportunity to enjoy meals and snacks without leaving the premises. Additionally, the space is equipped with professional equipment for lectures and provides open commodity display areas for startup groups and multi-commercial services corporations. This multifunctional approach sets Starcofree Coworking apart from its counterparts and creates a dynamic environment for collaboration and productivity.
The interior design of Starcofree Coworking embraces a subtractive design philosophy, maintaining the original fire-resistant cladding and exposed steel beam structure. The space features exposed grids and diamond-shaped grids, adding a touch of industrial charm. Lightweight materials like polished concrete floors and recycled fiber materials such as mud boards and yellow cypress wood composite materials contribute to the overall simplicity and rustic ambiance of the space.
One of the key strengths of Starcofree Coworking is its emphasis on natural lighting and space transparency. The strategic use of glass compartments and flow patterns ensures that the entire space is well-lit and spacious, regardless of the presence of external windows. The top lighting frame, combined with the diamond-shaped grid, cleverly conceals open pipelines in the ceiling, creating a clean and seamless aesthetic. The transparent design also elongates the longitudinal axis of the space, enhancing the sense of openness and connectivity.
Starcofree Coworking pays great attention to the comfort and well-being of its users. The ceiling of the open space is covered with fire retardant coating and spray paint, while the middle layer features slime boards that transition smoothly into smooth walls. This gradual texture variation adds visual interest and creates a sense of refinement. The design team also introduced large windows, allowing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and cityscape to flood the space. This integration of nature and architecture promotes a sense of tranquility and inspiration.
Creating a harmonious balance between the office and dining areas presented a unique challenge for the design team. To ensure that flow patterns, sound insulation, and odors do not interfere with each other, the team meticulously planned the movement within the space, anchoring the restaurant and kitchen area as the focal point. A self-developed app with separate access control for shared spaces and business areas was implemented, providing a seamless and efficient user experience. Soundproof walls were constructed to the specifications of a recording studio, minimizing sound interference in the business areas.
Starcofree Coworking, completed in July 2019 in Taichung City, Taiwan, is a testament to the power of innovative design. Its unique blend of office and dining spaces, coupled with its emphasis on simplicity, technology, and indoor greenery, creates a comfortable and inspiring environment for professionals. This groundbreaking design has earned Starcofree Coworking the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving the quality of life.
